Good Morning!

This is outside our apartment door on the fourth floor deck.

A good breakfast of frozen berries, banana, apple, whole almonds, muesli and peach yogurt. Yum!

Yesterday's afternoon walk

We walked to REI to get an energy 'gel' for Linn, which he likes to have when he runs a long race and came back by way of the Hult Center, stopping off to see two art galleries, Opus and Diva. The temperature has cooled somewhat. Walking in the afternoon was pleasant.

What about Bob Dylan on American Masters OPB last night? How things have changed in our country!

Black Sheep Gathering

A bit of nostalgia for us. We loved having our sheep and I loved working with wool. What was especially wonderful about raising sheep was when the lambs were born in the spring. How joyful was their leaping into the air and bounding about!

At this year's Black Sheep Gathering we only saw a couple of people we knew. The whole scene has changed hands to a different group of folks, who are as into it and interested in wool and it's many possibilities as we once were.

Whatta a mess!

I'm sadly in need of some good news of the world. Beheadings of our soldiers, Iraq's a mess, 'stay the course' is dumb, that immense new embassy in Baghdad is disgraceful in the face of no electricity or clean water for the people, all the rotten news while the big guys at Halliburton get richer and richer, the corruption of our government is demoralizing while photo ops for the president in Baghdad on a brief, safe trip for him at all costs and the evils of gay marriage are made big items in the news, the entirety is just sickening.

Oops! time to get up and get going.

June 17th, Linn's Birthday

This morning with Jane and Tom at their new house being built in Bend .
We are back from our Elderhostel in Joseph.

At the top of Mount Howard a chipmunk climbed on my knee to have her picture taken.

The view from Mount Howard until the fog closed in on us.

Opening the presents, the kitty participates.

View from the Tate Modern

About this time last year we were in London.

Today we are leaving to go to an Elderhostel in Joseph Oregon, in the Northeastern part of the state.

Sue had a birthday

Sue made a gorgeous quilt. It was a cute pattern that looks like it has ruffles on it.

I've been watching the blogging convention in Las Vegas on c-span2. Amazing!

Around Town

We caught the Breeze bus to the campus today to attend the luncheon and business meeting of the Art Museum. This has been a good year for the museum with considerable growth from its beginnings about a year ago. It is a cultural asset to the city and has prospects for an exciting future with much going on there for everyone. Eugene is a good place to be. It is good to be able ride the bus to get around.

The director of the museum said that an understanding of art can promote critical thinking.

When there are so many pressing problems in our country I wonder about the issues pushed to the forefront .

Two Vegetables

Romanesco Broccoli

Kohlrabi

Saturday Market was full of activity yesterday with people, vegetables, flowers, drums, food, crafts and get-down rock music. I didn't see or hear any free speech going on when I walked through the park blocks. Moving on to the Mall there was a 'brew taste' event that cost $10 to enter with a line of young people waiting to get in. On to the library I found a notice of a talk in progress by an author on older women and sex. I got in on the last half of it. The audience was mostly women in mid-life with a few men present. Both sexes participated in the discussion which was frank and open. One person hosted intimacy parties. One was writing a book about an older woman hitchhiker. One white-haired woman tried to explain tantric sex. One gentleman tried to emphasize the differences in responses of men and women.

The Sweet Life Patisserie

A cashew and date scone with a cup of coffee after a long walk along the river is lovely.

C-span has had someone talking this morning about the new finding by the supreme court about whistleblowing. How typical of the powers that be to continue to restrict citizens in more and more ways. This ruling makes no sense. If a public employee reports a complaint he or she can be fired for bringing something to light. We are in a quagmire in this country. What will it take to get us out?
